Fans excited to see Columbus Crew’s newest addition in Juan “Cucho” Hernandez

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Crew have fans excited without using a soccer pitch or even ball as the team welcomes its largest signing for a player with Juan “Cucho” Hernandez.

Fans are excited to see Cucho in black and gold.

Kevin Glenn is co-founder of Supporter Supply. Beyond selling merchandise for Crew fans, Glenn is a fan himself and said Columbus checks a lot of boxes for the 23-year-old striker.

Picture perfect, Pablo painted a puppy and is available for adoption for $18

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Getting that friend sometimes has four legs. “Pablo” has been at the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center for more than six months. This neutered 1-year-old enjoys walks on a leash and when treats are involved, he’s willing to learn commands to sit and lie down.

“Pablo” was recently featured on the social media platform TikTok as a painter. Scan the picture QR code below to watch how trainers encouraged his painting.

European EV battery maker chooses Hilliard for U.S. headquarters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (COLUMBUS BUSINESS FIRST) — Forsee Power, a French maker of EV batteries, announced Monday that it will establish its U.S. headquarters and factory in Hilliard, creating 150 jobs.

The nearly $14 million first phase will develop a 138,000-square-foot facility at 4555 Lyman Drive into office, R&D and manufacturing. The company said it has room to grow on the site.

Columbus opens cooling centers as temperatures are expected to hit high 90s

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus will be opening cooling centers across the city as temperatures will be in the high 90s this week.

The city says they will be located at five regional community centers Tuesday through Thursday to give residents a place to cool off.

The locations – Barnett, Beatty, Douglas, Glenwood and Marion Franklin – will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fashion designer’s mental health journey inspires ‘Metamorphosis’ collection

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Crystal Zhang started struggling with depression during her sophomore year of college.

As a little girl, you’d find Crystal Zhang dressing and designing her barbie dolls. She came to the U.S. from China as an exchange student in high school.

She started at the Columbus College of Art and Design to focus and hone in on her passion for fashion, but when she started her sophomore year, things became difficult. She started struggling with depression, and days started to feel harder and longer.

In response, she honed in on her passion even more as she began tapping into resources around campus. Two years later, it would be her mental health journey that would inspire her senior collection. “I used the kind of dark red to kind of express the anxiety that we have when we’re going through depression,” said Zhang.

Columbus Metropolitan Library offering relief from heat

Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) is opening its doors for central Ohioans who need relief from the heat this week as temperatures are expected to be in the 90s.

City of Columbus help United Way’s efforts behind “Success by third grade” movement

As more and more third graders struggle to meet the critical requirements around proficient reading, the City of Columbus is teaming up with United Way of Central Ohio behind their “Success by third grade” movement.

The city is committing $1 million towards the efforts. Zayanah White is a third-grade student at Highland Elementary and says some of the best parts of learning is figuring out big words. We asked White, “how do you focus on getting used to those big words?” White responded, “I’ll divide it or I’ll sound it out.”

Ohio State football game vs. Notre Dame gets national spotlight to open 2022 season

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football will open the season with a primetime showdown in Ohio Stadium against Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 3.

A kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. was announced on Tuesday. The game will be shown on ABC, and ESPN GameDay will set up in Columbus for the day. It will be GameDay’s 21st visit to Columbus, the last coming on Nov. 20 last season when the Buckeyes hosted Michigan State in a top-10 matchup. Ohio State won that one to improve to 15-5 when GameDay camps outside Ohio Stadium.

Also, ABC claimed the fourth game of the season for the Buckeyes, their Big Ten opener at home on Sept. 24 against Wisconsin. That kickoff time has not yet been set.
