Columbus middle school hosts ‘Girl Talk’ to promote peace and beauty

Choosing peace over violence and loving yourself are two very important themes that a local organization in Central Ohio hopes to instill in kids at a young age.

Students at Johnson Park Middle School in Columbus got a few life lessons Monday; learning how to be leaders and mentors.

“It inspires us to do good and shows how much we are appreciated,” said Johnson Park Middle School 8th grader, Kyanna Rodriguez.

Columbus gas prices continue to fall as travel begins to rise

Gas prices in Columbus continue to trend downward, a welcome sight for the up-and-coming holiday travel period.

For the fifth week in a row and 10th time in the past 12 weeks, the average gas price in Columbus has dropped, this time by 13.8 cents to an average of $2.72 per gallon.

The current price is 45.4 cents lower than one month ago and 18.6 cents lower than this time one year ago. In Ohio, the average price of gas dropped by 12.3 cents to $2.69 per gallon, while nationally, gas prices dropped for a 13th consecutive week, this time by 8.6 cents to $3.03 per gallon, the lowest level of 2023.

Season tickets sold out for 2024 Crew home games

Just days after claiming their third MLS Cup championship, the Columbus Crew have sold out all of their season ticket packages for next season.

“Crew can confirm the Club has reached its season ticket cap for the 2024 season,” team spokesman Rob McBurnett confirmed to ABC 6. “Single match tickets will be available for purchase with the launch of the 2024 schedule.”

2024 Ohio State Fair dates announced; county fair dates set

It is never too early to start planning for fair season, and you can now start marking those dates on your calendar.

Next year’s Ohio county fairs schedule is set, which also means the dates for the 2024 Ohio State Fair have been scheduled as well. The fair season will kick off on June 8 and conclude in October.

The Ohio State Fair in Columbus will take place from July 24 to Aug. 4. For information on prices and more, follow this link. Concert announcements for the Fair are expected early next year with roughly a dozen shows set to be announced.

Columbus woman helps provide Christmas gifts for over 40 local students

For the last 6 years, Tracey Ash has been helping provide Christmas gifts for students in need at Columbus City schools.

The boxes are filled with clothes, accessories, gift cards and toiletries. The gifts are made possible by donations from the community. This year, 40 students at Centennial High School were given a Christmas box.

Ash started the gift-giving after her son was bullied in high school.

For the last six years, Columbus policeAEP and Starfish Assignment have teamed up to ensure warmth for local children. Since starting this project, they have helped around 3,000 children stay warm.

Columbus restaurant is listed among the best independent pizzerias nationally

A Columbus pizzeria around for more than 60 years has received a nationwide prize.

Terita’s Pizza, a family-run pizza shop at 3905 Cleveland Ave., was included on PMQ Pizza Magazine’s list of the 25 most popular independent pizzerias in America in December, earning the No. 20 spot. The local pizzeria was opened in 1959 by Gus Iannario. Nearly 65 years later, his son, Tom, continues to run the business.

Nicki Minaj announces 2024 concert in Columbus

One of the world’s most popular hip-hop artists will be performing in Columbus in the spring.

Nicki Minaj announced she will perform at Schottenstein Center on April 12 as part of her “Pink Friday 2” tour. The Columbus concert will be the only one in Ohio but she will have other stops in the Midwest in Detroit (Apr. 20) and Chicago (Apr. 24).

Columbus gas prices dip another dime

National gas prices have hit the lowest mark of 2023 and Ohio is now one of 23 states with average gas prices at $2.99 or less.

Last week in Columbus prices dropped 10.3 cents per gallon to an average of $2.86, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in the metro area. It marks the fourth decline in a row and ninth in the previous 11 weeks after average prices dropped below $3 per gallon the previous week.

The current price is 40.2 cents lower than one month ago and 25.1 cents lower than this time one year ago. In Ohio, the average price of gas dropped by 11.7 cents to $2.81 per gallon, while nationally, gas prices dropped for a 12th consecutive week, this time by 9.6 cents to $3.11 per gallon, the lowest level of 2023.
