Last week, the Columbus Zoo welcomed a baby female Bornean orangutan into the world, marking the first birth of the critically endangered species at the zoo in over 60 years.
The baby orangutan was born on Nov. 28 at 12:34 a.m. to first-time mother Khali, who is 17. The zoo said the baby appears to be “bright and strong.” It also reports that Khali is attentive to the baby’s needs and spends her time grooming and snuggling her baby. Khali has been bringing her baby over to the keepers for visual examinations, the zoo said.

House Bill 277 would create a tax credit for landlords who allow companion animals – defined as cats or dogs – in units without added security deposits or fees. “She might have a little destructive side to her when it comes to her toys,” Moser joked. “She probably could have laid in the grass and chewed on that toy for hours.”
The shelter’s new playground includes a few obstacle course structures, including jumping hurdles, stairs, and puzzles that the dogs can solve to get treats.

Five manatees from the Columbus Zoo and three from the Cincinnati Zoo successfully completed their rehabilitation, some coming from extremely dire situations, and were placed in customized transports to fly from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Florida.
