Nicki Minaj announces 2024 concert in Columbus

One of the world’s most popular hip-hop artists will be performing in Columbus in the spring.

Nicki Minaj announced she will perform at Schottenstein Center on April 12 as part of her “Pink Friday 2” tour. The Columbus concert will be the only one in Ohio but she will have other stops in the Midwest in Detroit (Apr. 20) and Chicago (Apr. 24).

Columbus gas prices dip another dime

National gas prices have hit the lowest mark of 2023 and Ohio is now one of 23 states with average gas prices at $2.99 or less.

Last week in Columbus prices dropped 10.3 cents per gallon to an average of $2.86, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in the metro area. It marks the fourth decline in a row and ninth in the previous 11 weeks after average prices dropped below $3 per gallon the previous week.

The current price is 40.2 cents lower than one month ago and 25.1 cents lower than this time one year ago. In Ohio, the average price of gas dropped by 11.7 cents to $2.81 per gallon, while nationally, gas prices dropped for a 12th consecutive week, this time by 9.6 cents to $3.11 per gallon, the lowest level of 2023.

Columbus toddler rides around in style for her ‘Make-A-Wish’

A 3-year-old girl from Columbus can now ride around in style after her wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation was granted at Topgolf on Sunday.

Two weeks before her first birthday, Lola was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease. According to her website, called Hope with Lo, Zellweger’s Spectrum Disorder is usually terminal in childhood and affects every system in a person’s body.

Lola’s dad Jake Kaufman said the family was feeling joyfulness and gratefulness at the event hosted by Topgolf and Make-A-Wish.

Community members shop local at the Avant Garde Art & Craft Show

It’s the holiday season, and local vendors and artisans want to remind you to consider shopping local for gifts this year.

Many of them were set up at the Winter Avant Garde Art & Craft Show at Hilliard’s Makoy Center on Sunday.

At the event, more than 100 local businesses were set up, selling handmade items, including textiles, woodcrafts, and jewelry. Guests could enjoy some concessions like hot cocoa while shopping as well.

Columbus’ Ronald McDonald House expansion is helping more families than ever

Hospital stays are no picnic for children. That’s why the Ronald McDonald House Charities has been around for generations, but one in Ohio can now help more families than ever.

The Ronald McDonald House in Columbus added 86 more rooms to accommodate more than 6,000 families. It’s now billed as the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world, supporting families like the Magyar’s.

“You know, no one expects to have something like this happen,” said Laurie Magyar.

BalletMet’s ‘The Nutcracker’ returns to Ohio Theatre

One of Columbus’ most cherished holiday traditions dating back to 1974 is returning to the Ohio Theatre this week.

“The Nutcracker” opens on Thursday at the Ohio Theatre with 20 performances through Dec. 23. The production will feature more than 180 academy students and trainees alongside the professional company and BalletMet 2.

“The Nutcracker has become an expectation in our community every holiday season, and we cannot wait to bring it back again this year,” said BalletMet Artistic Director Edwaard Liang. “Many of our dancers have performed The Nutcracker hundreds of times, but the magic of this ballet is still palpable year after year. It’s an honor to share this production with Columbus yet again.”
