Police therapy dogs train at Columbus Zoo

It was hard to tell who had more fun at the Columbus Zoo on Thursday: the police K9 therapy dogs, or their handlers.

Fourteen law enforcement K9 therapy teams were at the zoo for training, taking in the smorgasbord of sights, smells, people and sounds — like when they were heckled by the seals at Adventure Cove.

“The great thing about these dogs is they’re used for everything,” said Darrah Metz, a deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office who partners with Mattis, a 6-year-old English Labrador.
