in Event/Local News/People/Sports

The Ohio History Connection in Columbus has announced that the application filed by the Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society has been selected to honor King Solomon White.

White was a baseball pioneer in the late 19th and early 20th century who advocated for the lifting of the color bar in baseball which prevented him, and other similarly situated Black baseball players, from playing the great American pastime in the major leagues.

The application was selected from among 53 applications filed in a special call by OHC to lift up outstanding examples of minority heritage in the Buckeye State. The application was also awarded grant funding of $3,585 to assist in the cost of the marker by the Karen and Robert Lucas Regional Fund promoting local history.
