A former runaway, foster youth and single mother who managed to escape the labyrinth of poverty, Jennifer McKenzie vowed to help other women better their situations.
Through hard work, education and studying the systemic causes of poverty, McKenzie hurdled the obstacles in her path and eventually became the associate vice president of program performance and strategy for the Columbus Urban League.
McKenzie’s determination and commitment to giving back have earned her recognition this year as one of six YWCA Columbus Women on the Rise. Now in its fourth year, the honor is given to young women making an impact in the community. Their dedication and accomplishments, as well as those of six Women of Achievement, will be acknowledged at a ceremony on April 27 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
