The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium has increased its population by three! Over the months of January and February, three dama gazelle calves were born in the Zoo’s Heart of Africa region.

The first of these was a female calf born to Kix, a first time mother, on January 21. Due to the calf’s temperature being noted as higher than normal, the calf received three days of medical care, the calf is now reported to be doing very well.

The second is a female calf born to experienced mother Susie on January 31, but was slow to start nursing, as observed by the Zoo’s Animal Care team. The calf was given a catheter and was bottle-fed for a few days after, but is now reported to be doing well, and enjoys running and playing.
